Airship Fabric Development: Innovation in Aerospace Engineering
Under a project funded by Innovate-UK, Arville played a critical role in developing an advanced outer-shell fabric for a next-generation, lighter-than-air vehicle.
Conventional materials lacked the required strength-to-weight ratio, durability, and gas impermeability necessary for this pioneering aircraft. Leveraging our expertise in high-performance textiles, we engineered a lightweight yet incredibly strong fabric using Vectran (Liquid Crystal Polymer) yarn, reinforced with a specialist coating to ensure UV resistance and airtight integrity.
The result? The world’s first variable-buoyancy-powered autonomous UAV, successfully test-flown with the potential for long-term satellite-like applications. This breakthrough highlights Arville’s ability to push the boundaries of aerospace innovation.
