      Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are one of the ways we recruit and develop the next generation of technical textile specialists.

Many of our employees come from the local communities, some even have textile specialists in their families.

Every new starter receives full internal training – whether they join through an apprenticeship or not.

      The Programme

Arville apprentices get hands-on experience while they train. After a three-month induction, they move into full-time roles with a full hourly rate.

We work with the Textile Centre of Excellence (TCOE) to provide industry-specific training through a mix of on-site learning, online coursework, and practical sessions. Apprentices also attend college and visit other manufacturers to broaden their skills.

      Dedicated Mentors

With support from a dedicated mentor, they rotate through different production areas, gaining a well-rounded understanding of the industry. We also provide study time and quiet spaces during work hours for coursework.

Apprenticeships take 18 months to four years, depending on the level, and lead to a nationally recognised qualification.
At Arville, we invest in the next generation—equipping them with the skills, experience, and confidence to build a successful career in textiles.

      Weaving Technician Apprentice (Level 4)

This apprenticeship has taken me beyond just running the machines – I’m setting them up, programming intricate designs, and solving complex faults. The mix of technology here is unheard of in the textile industry, with the largest shuttle loom fleet and 70 year old working looms, to Picanol and Dornier machines and they are investing in more. I know I’m lucky I started working here when I did.

The team trusts you to take on responsibility, and if you put yourself forward, there are endless opportunities to grow. I’ve worked across departments, tackled quality control challenges. My suggestion for a new level training programme was taken on for future apprentices to bridge the knowledge gap. If you’ve got the drive, this place will take you far.

      Weaving Technician Apprentice (Level 4)

I’ve always been hands-on, whether it’s fixing machines or figuring out how things work. My plan was to work for the Military, but after starting the apprenticeship at Arville, I’ve found it challenging and not monotonous, from learning the basics to diagnosing faults across multiple sites. Managers ask for your suggestions on projects and the teams are always ready to help you. From this job my confidence has grown massively, even my friends have noticed the change.

I look at the world differently now, the textiles I produce could be what I’m sitting on in a plane or protecting thousands of lives. There’s a huge sense of accomplishment in that.”

      Finishing Technician Apprentice (Level 2)

Before this apprenticeship, I struggled with confidence – now I can speak up, problem-solve and take charge. At work I get to fine-tune fabrics that go into fuel tanks, engines, and aerospace projects – and at home I’m rebuilding the motorbike that I bought with my first pay check. I love figuring out how things fit together, and Arville has given me the opportunity to make this into a well paid career.

My dad works here too and, working alongside him, I understand the stress he deals with on challenging projects, and it’s great to know I can help him and we can take the pride of finishing the job home.
