Coat

We are coated textile specialists, with expertise in coating and combining fabrics for bespoke, high performance technical applications. We alter and enhance the technical performance of fabrics using a diverse range of coatings through our in-house mixing, coating and testing facility. This allows us to achieve exceptionally high quality, consistent and reproducible results to demanding specifications.

Mixing and Formulation

Formulating textile coatings is a complex process. It combines a wide range of chemicals depending on the nature of the polymer, the additives for the specific end use and the type of coating machinery used for its application.

We are trusted and approved partners to many leading suppliers, helping them achieve exceptionally high quality in their end products. Operating our in-house mixing, textile coating and testing facilities to ISO 9001 quality standards means that we manufacture within tight tolerances with consistent and reproducible results.

Where bespoke characteristics are required we create custom coating compounds with additives designed to impart the following added properties:

  • Fire retardant
  • Anti-static
  • Resistance to UV degradation
  • Water repellant
  • Colour mixture to specific pantones
  • Chemical resistance

Spread Coating

We use precision ‘knife-over-air’ and ‘knife-over-roller’ techniques to apply solvent-based polymer coatings directly onto the fabric at weights from 8gsm up to 300gsm on one or two sides of the fabric.

The solvent medium is then evaporated leaving a layer of polymer on the fabric. This is then cured at high temperatures in specially designed ovens to vulcanise the coating and fix its final characteristics.

We can also supply unvulcanised (semi-cured) fabrics for further processing.

Dip Coating

Dip coating operations give you a wide variety of water-based solutions and fabric treatments.

We can tailor-make chemical formulations to provide you with applications that demand basic mechanical strength promoters, sealing yarns, waterproofing, and improving dimensional stability.

We use advanced chemicals to improve adhesion and compatibility in specific industrial processes such as PU and adhesive priming to prepare fabric for rubber reinforcement purposes.

Fabric Combining

Our specially developed bespoke bonding process combines individual fabric substrates into unique multi-layer bonded textile structures.

We can combine hybrid fabrics using heat and pressure, to give you the capability to produce truly bespoke fabric combinations such as tri-laminates with specific performance characteristics.

Coating Fabrics

We are specialists in the coating of technical textiles. We have access to a wide range of coating compounds and chemical formulations which, when applied to fabrics, can be used to give a much broader, enhanced set of operating characteristics.

Our coated fabrics have a wide range of applications and are designed to withstand some of the most challenging end uses. We manufacture bespoke coated fabrics for a wide range of industrial purposes. We also have the capability to weave the base textiles, this allows us to control the specification throughout, making a higher-quality product more easily.

The versatility of our dedicated coating lines means that we can also offer commission coating services to customers who prefer to freely issue their own fabrics, ranging from PU and Acrylic to more specialist coatings, such as Viton and Neoprene.

We actively work with some of the most scientifically advanced organisations in the world, at the forefront of material science and technology, to ensure that our technical team has access to the latest developments in a wide range of rubbers, polymers and chemical solutions, including Polyurethane, Acrylic, EVA, Silicone, PTFE, Natural latex, Styrene, Nipol, Neoprene, EPDM, Butyl, Hypalon and Viton.

When formulated into coating compounds and applied to fabrics, they are designed to add a wide range of enhancements such as extra strength, durability, temperature resistance, barrier properties, water-proofing, and resistance to aggressive substances such as solvents, acids, alkalis, fossil fuels and many more.

We have extensive experience in creating bespoke coated fabrics that are designed to meet a specific challenge and can achieve a comprehensive range of characteristics through our expertise in textile coatings, in multiple combinations and to various degrees.
